Sakurako Oidaira | Artist

Sakurako Oidaira, Born in Aomori Prefecture, Japan in 1994, raised in Okayama Prefecture, and currently residing in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Her work in recent years has primarily focused on line drawings. She is interested in the boundaries between sound, letters, patterns, and images, and is fascinated by the inclusiveness of the act of drawing itself, as it connects to the activities of nature and living things. While it's difficult to definitively classify her line drawings as automatic writing, she at least starts by drawing in that direction. For her, the process by which playful lines, initially meaningless, gradually acquire characteristics and transform into words and landscapes is incredibly beautiful. It's like a journey without a predetermined destination. This aesthetic sensibility is directly connected to the energy of life. For the artist, immersing herself in lines is a means of freely moving between the invisible and the visible. She believes that for both the viewer and the artist who has regained objectivity, it enables the rediscovery of small discoveries, the possibility of freedom, and a connection to everything.
She sees trees as beings that allow her to draw lines freely and give her courage. She is not simply drawing trees; she is surrendering herself to their presence while simultaneously discovering her own lines. Just as she feels an affinity for and interest in trees, she also feels an affinity for and interest in sound and music, and a soundscape approach coexists in her work. Through these natural elements, she confronts her inner self. She trusts her own inner sensibility and strives to translate it into lines while it is still pure and ephemeral.
